And there’s the thought, that a little fear might actually be a good thing.
The Bible says, ‘The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.’ (Psalm 111 v 10)
Reverence for the Creator is a fundamental benchmark, a most valuable guideline.
Sadly reverence and respect are in short supply nowadays. We are not afraid to use God’s name as an expletive, and ignore His Commandments. We are not afraid to ridicule our Maker, and instead worship images of animals or human beings, idols of music, the sports field or the big screen. We are not afraid to kill the most vulnerable and defenceless in the womb. We take pride in relationships which scripture calls unnatural and immoral.
It all feels like the 1st Century world of Romans 1 v 18-32 which the Apostle said was ripe for judgement!
Mercifully God sent His Son into just such a world to offer salvation so that we might discover true freedom to do what is right and God-pleasing and better all round.
Available, according to Christ, to all who repent and have faith.
And a little healthy respect.
