Whatever our circumstances, Ephesians 2 v 1-10 gives Christians a radically positive perspective.
Paul pulls no punches saying that before someone is a Christian they’re spiritually ‘dead’ and facing ‘wrath’ but then enthuses about the transforming grace of God that renews people through faith in Jesus. He says it’s like we’re already ‘raised’, destined to be with our Saviour in heavenly glory! That’s where we belong.
We don’t have to earn it by our own efforts, we never could, but remarkably it’s a gift from our amazing, loving God. He’s at work in our lives, helping us daily walk in His ways and know His blessing.
This is a Christian’s perspective, our God-given context for everything else we have to consider. Are we feeling happy? The age to come will be even better! Are we facing difficulty or pain? These will pass. The Lord will give us the help we need and life in Christ is forever!
So let’s be patient people and remember to give thanks constantly. As our churches begin another Autumn’s work let’s serve obediently and enthusiastically, always prepared to share the hope we have in Jesus.
To Him be the glory!
