Christmas is a celebration worth sharing.
The angel summed it up in a couple of sentences to the shepherds –
- Good news
- Great joy
- For all the people
Christmas is good news. The Saviour has come.
If our house is on fire its good news that the fire engine is on its way, even better news that it has arrived! If our boat is sinking in the sea its good news when someone sees the lifeboat approaching. As it comes alongside we know we’ll be saved.
The Bible teaches we all need saving from our sin and disobedience which has us in real trouble with God. This good news is that God still loves us and has given His Son Jesus to be our Saviour. Because Jesus paid for our sin on the cross, we can be forgiven, rescued and blessed with eternal life. Good news!
This good news brings great joy to those who accept and welcome it. We have joy at Christmas to spend time with our families, we enjoy the parties and the treats, we’re delighted with lovely gifts. But the greatest joy is knowing we are loved by Jesus. He is our Saviour, our ‘Good Shepherd’ Who will generously look after us always. He even promises we’ll get to live in the ‘house of the Lord’ in heaven one day!
The nice thing is this offer is for everyone.
Imagine going to the shop and seeing a special offer, only to be told it was only for some people and not for others, that we could only have it if we have blue eyes or dark hair. Wouldn’t that be so unfair? The angel told the shepherds this good news is for all the people. Everyone is invited to trust and follow the Saviour Jesus and discover in Him eternal life and the greatest joy of all!
