Sometimes in life we can meet people who are pompous and self-important…
some who are eccentric social-climbers…
a few slippery characters you really couldn’t trust…
and some who are positively dangerous!
But-
But-
we also get adopted by unexpected family,
receive help from unlikely allies,
and make friends with one or two special people who are there for us when we really need them and stick with us to the end!
1st Century Apostle Paul has come across them all and writes from experience:
‘We are hard-pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.’
(2 Corinthians 4 v 8-9)
Despite very real human disappointment, and persecution, from both inside the Church and out, he is determined to keep on worshipping God faithfully, observing the sacraments reverently, and practising love sacrificially for the sake of Christ.
Jesus Christ, Who laid down His life for us, forgives, redeems, loves and shows such patience with each one of us.
Because He’s worth it.
