Despite the state of the place people these days seem ridiculously proud of human achievement and self-sufficiency. ‘Look at us!’ they trumpet to the world around them, ‘We can do life without God.’
‘We can do medicine and healthcare without God’ they say and the results are abortion and euthanasia.
‘We can do sex without God’ they claim. The results include teenage pregnancy, disease, trafficking and countless broken families.
‘We can do education and business without God’ they boast, and communities wither from the effects of ruthless greed.
Somewhere I read, ‘The Law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple.’ (Psalm 19 v 7)
And again, ‘Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.’ (Proverbs 14 v 34)
And that the Son of God concluded that those who build their lives on dodgy foundations will end up like the house in the illustration above! (Matthew 7 v 26-28)
So without shame let people of faith gladly follow the instructions of our Master found in the Bible, for in these are life and blessing.
May His grace rest on all who love and obey Him.
