I can’t really use this space to recommend a movie involving illegal street racing, theft, deception and prolonged scenes of Hollywood-choreographed violence (in which the characters are beaten, crash, leap from speeding cars and collapsing buildings and can still walk away flashing perfect white teeth for the camera!!!!).
However, it was quality time spent with my daughter who was home for the holiday so I don’t regret my little trip to the flicks.
And in fairness, in among all the action/mayhem the movie does promote intense loyalty to those who are, or who become ‘family’.
One of the actors, Paul Walker, died tragically before filming ended, and it’s both clever and moving how the team worked in a loving tribute in the closing scenes, contained in the theme music video attached below.
No family is perfect for each family is made up of imperfect, broken people like us, yet each member is precious, each one belongs. In the film, Vin Diesel’s character says, ‘I don’t have a team; I have family.’
Jesus didn’t come to make His Church a team. He died and rose again to give us each other as family. God’s family. Forever. (Psalm 68 v 5+6, John 1 v 12)
So let’s cherish those whom God has given us, and tell them that we do.
